About

The Flaming Lips are, without a doubt, one of the weirdest bands out there. They are known for ridiculous song titles, such as "A Train Runs Over The Camel But Is Derailed By The Gnat," and "Guy Who Got A Headache And Accidentally Saves The World." Their concerts are definitely memorable, featuring giant prosthetic hands, elaborate costumes, video projections, confetti, balloons, and Wayne Coyne being carried by the audience in his giant plastic bubble. They were named one of the "50 Bands to See Before You Die" by Q Magazine in 2002.

The unique sound The Flaming Lips produce is often just as bizarre as the song and album titles suggest. They fuse their rock and roll talents with psychedelic effects, creating a spacey, almost electronic feel in many songs. Their music has appeared in many movies, TV shows, and even a salad dressing commercial. They composed the song "SpongeBob and Patrick Confront the Psychic Wall of Energy" for the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004, and in 2009, "Do You Realize??" was named the official rock song of the state of Oklahoma.
