Richard Hammond

Richard Hammond is one of the three presenters on Top Gear.  He was born on  December 19, 1969. Hammond was born in Solihull, Warwickshire and is the grandson of workers in the Birmingham car industry which he references on the show. He worked for many radio stations before he auditioned for Top Gear.

Dragster Crash

During filming of a Top Gear segment at the former RAF Elvington airbase near York on 20 September 2006, Richard Hammond was injured in the crash of the jet-powered car he was piloting. Hammond was travelling at 288 mph (463 km/h) at the time of the crash. He took some time to recover in the Hospital and the new season of the show at the time had to be postponed
