In the 2000’s, Nintendo’s popularity began to wain a small part due to other companies having hit consoles. In 2000, GameBoy sales surpassed $100 million and another smash hit game was released, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. In 2001, Nintendo released the GameCube and the GameBoy Advance, both to success, along with the games Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros. In 2002, the longtime head of Nintendo stepped down naming Satoru Iwata as his successor.  In 2003, the GameBoy Advance SP was released adding to the Game Boy's popularity, this year also had the release of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. In 2004, the Nintendo DS was announced and released to immediate success. In 2006, the DS became the most popular handheld as well as the DS lite and Wii released the same year.  In 2008, after the newcomer-friendly Wii, Nintendo released more software that was a hit with the public. In 2009, Nintendo announced the DS had shipped over 100 million units and they released the DSI which had a camera and improved sound.
