Skyrim's main story revolves around the player character and their effort to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied in the Elder Scrolls to destroy the world. The game is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim, one of many provinces of Tamriel. Over the course of the game, the player completes main and side quests as well as developing the character by improving it's skills. Skyrim continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel most anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.Skyrim is the fourth largest country in Tamriel with an area of roughly 105,500 square miles. It features many different terrain types, including tundra plains, forests, highlands and mountains. It is the most rugged region on the continent; not only does it contain five of the highest peaks in Tamriel, but is also very snowy and cold throughout. Only in the western reaches are there some measure of flat land, where most of the population resides. The rest of Skyrim is vertical; mostly mountains, cliffs, and deep valleys. A variety of crops are raised in Skyrim, from wheat to the hardy snowberry.
