Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body can not produce any or enough insulin which causes elevated glucose levels in the body.

This happens because for some reason the body either attacks the pancreas or it stops working. This leads to diabetes because insulin is created in the pancreas. Due to this the body does not have the ability to break down glucose (sugar) that enters the body so a diabetic has an increase in blood glucose level which is dangerous.
