Rookie Year

Butler had a bit of a setback his rookie year, as there was a lockout due to contract negations between players and the association. Because of this, Butler never was able to play in the Summer League that was established for incoming NBA players. This likely stunted his growth as an up and coming player. Not to mention that Bulls head coach, Tom Thibodeau, has a habit of not giving rookies much playing time. As a rookie, Butler averaged 2.6 points and 1.3 rebounds while playing only 8.5 minutes per game.  However, he played hard and showed lots of potential, which earned him the respect of coaches and players alike.
