Walk off the Earth

Formed: 2006
Origin: Burlington, Ontario, Canada

Walk of the Earth is an alternative band that rose to fame without any assistance from professional management; they climbed to fame by posting covers of popular songs on YouTube. Their channel has over 2 million subscribers and 470 million video views. They are most famous for their cover of “Somebody I Used to Know” by Gotye, in which all five members are playing one guitar simultaneously. Many of their other covers are well received including their cover of “Royals” by Lorde, which was featured at the 2014 Grammy Awards. They are signed with Columbia Records. They released 4 studio albums prior to signing with Columbia, and have since released three more. They toured the US and Europe with the release of their first album in 2013, and then again in 2014.
This is one of the most unique YouTube channels I’ve seen in my many years of being active on YouTube. Even if you’re not into the usual cover artists of songs, you will be impressed to see some of the creative ways this group has covered popular songs.
