Valve is an American video game development company co-founded in 1996 by Mike Harrington and Gabe Newell. It is most known for games such as Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Dota 2. It is also the creator and manager of Steam, an online games distributing service and online digital rights management software. As of 2014, there are more than 3400 games and over 75 million active accounts. Alongside this they are currently developing the Steam Machine, using the SteamOS software they created. They currently have their headquarters in Bellevue, Washington, but they were originally founded in Kirkland, Washington. The European office, named Valve S.a.r.l, opened in 2012 in Luxemborg. The current CEO and managing director is Gabe Newell, nicknamed Gaben by the Steam community.
